Natural Strategies For Cancer - How to Fight Cancer With Food
Eating the right foods will give you an incredible edge in fighting off cancer. According to Patrick and Noreen Quillin in "Beating Cancer With Nutrition" (2001), researchers have spent 30 years and $45 billion tax dollars trying to find a cure for cancer while the answer is found right under our noses.
Everybody gets cancer but most people are able to fight it off. A healthy diet plays an important part in helping the body rid itself of unwanted cancer cells.
For example the ellagic acid that is found in berries causes "suicide" in cancer cells. Cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage contain a substance that kills cancer. Foods such as black-eyed peas, sunflower seeds, and great northern beans are good sources of folate which protect against DNA mutations. Tomatoes contain lycopenes which help suppress the growth of cancer cells.
The catechins found in green tea have been shown to prevent or slow down the development of various types of cancer. Small amounts of catechins are also found in foods such as red grapes, cocoa, and black tea.
In order to make the most of these cancer fighting benefits, eat foods in their natural state as closely as possible. Organic fresh or frozen vegetables and fruits, raw or sprouted nuts and whole grains, and grass-fed organic beef are some examples.
Avoid processed foods such as white flour, sugar, fructose, corn syrup, and commercial dairy products such as milk and ice cream. These foods will actually feed cancer cells and cause accelerated growth.
